Autonomous view on Energy

Back when electricity still came “out of the plug socket”, energy management was limited to manually switching devices on and off, and occasionally answering the door to the meter reader. Now, however, energy use is scrupulously monitored and meticulously controlled. Energy management is also playing an ever more important role away from centralised power grids.

With increasing networking, comprehensive possibilities open up for the management and control of electrical energy. The integration into the Internet of Things (IoT) allows an exact and continuous recording of the energy consumption of each object. In order to manage the resulting flood of data in a meaningful way, helpers such as our IoT-capable controller, the CTR-700, which in this case acts as an edge controller, are needed.

The sysWORXX CTR-700 is a Linux-based industrial controller which is predestined for use in IoT due to its extensive pre-installed software components. Thanks to its versatile communication interfaces, the device is particularly suitable for processes in energy management. Especially via Modbus, numerous smart meters can be integrated with little effort. Field bus interfaces such as CAN/CANopen support the connection of additional peripheral devices and sensors such as actuators can be addressed directly via digital and analogue interfaces.

This provides a more realistic flow path for the Infusion Device under test and therefore more accurate readings. Also, independent stepper motor control of the custom designed ceramic valving allows the system to run not only more quietly and more smoothly, but it also allows for a bidirectional powered fluid flow for use in the built-in cleaning cycle.

SNAP-SCM-ST2 – Pulse & Direction Digital Outputs X2

The SNAP-SCM-ST2 pulse output module is a two-channel serial communication module that provides pulse and direction signals for stepper motor drives. Each channel is isolated from the logic side. The module can either output a constant frequency, or it can ramp from one frequency to another.

The SNAP-SCM-ST2 links up to two stepper motors which can then be controlled by a SNAP PAC controller running a PAC Control™ programming strategy. LED indicators are provided to indicate activity on each port.

The module snaps onto an Opto 22 SNAP PAC mounting rack. SNAP PAC racks accommodate up to 4, 8, 12, or 16 I/O modules, with a maximum of 8 serial modules (including SNAP-SCM-ST2) on any one rack. Because the SNAP-SCM-ST2 module is mounted on these standard racks with other SNAP I/O modules, you can use the combination of analog, digital, and serial modules required by your application at the location where they are needed.
